Views from my window

Thursday, November 8, 2007 19:20 | Filled in Factoids, blogging, farm scenes, hay

Hi Brit,

Our friend Barb requested a sample of the view out my window, so here it is, facing east looking past our log cabin at the orchard:

While I was at it, I took this one on the opposite side of the house, looking out over a field that had the hay bailed Monday:

Speaking of hay, here’s part of what that field has produced this year.  The rolls on the left were made Monday.  Sorry, but it’s all sold.

Each roll, by the way, weighs around 1500 pounds, over half of which is carbon sucked out of the atmosphere.  Thus, these ten rolls represent a negative carbon footprint of around 4 tons, or 8 tons of CO2.  Eat your heart out Al Gore.  Besides the “green” good karma, it’s also tremendous fun to move them around with the tractor.

    This is delightful, grit!

I am such a people person, and I guess, I just can’t stop at what they write, but I love to go beyond the writing to the person!

This just shows a little more about you, and I knew this was going to be so lovely!

    What a treat, grit.
    Thanks!

    Barb

    Hi Barb,

My pleasure. I was just tickled that the pics came out that nice with a cell phone camera. Oh, and just at dawn the field in the second photo had a thin coating of frost which made quite a display as the sun moved higher in the sky. Unfortunately, there was too much contrast for my camera. Remind me and I’ll get some shots of the dogwoods blooming down by the lake next spring which, at least in person, is quite awe inspiring. The fruit trees in bloom aren’t half bad either.

As to the Brit’s view, I’d be interested in that myself. However, and you may have noticed his absence lately, he has some health problems in his family that are diverting his attention from blogging at the moment. It even caused him to cancel his trip to the States, meaning that I will not have an excuse to visit Graceland until next year.

I would also point out that since I’ve shown you mine, it’s only fair that you show me yours :)

I am sure I’ve heard that line before.
    :)

Actually, since I am into photography so deeply, the views outside my window and around the house are everywhere, but not in one place to just lead you to, so I will try to get that together. :)

Well grit, I decided to blog on the house/window thing.
I didn’t mean to get as sentimental as I did, so forgive me,
