The British Empire utters a last whimper . . .
Hi Grit!
Now you know I’m very rarely roused to anger. In fact it’s really hard to rattle me or wind me up but sometimes you just have to stand up for what you believe in?
I believe in the British Lion - in British Pride and an End to Indifference!
Whatever happened to the Great British Empire?
A good question indeed! I’ve been wandering around our newspapers and trying to find out what it is that makes us British. Quite a shock I got too! Tell me what you think after you’ve had a look at some of these . . .
Pensioner trying to report crime turned away from police HQ… as all the officers were playing POKER
Pensioner who gave teenager ‘clip round the ear’ with church papers found guilty of assault
Why do we love Jade Goody and vilify a University Challenge brainbox for being bright?
OK – so we celebrate mediocrity and despise intelligence, turn pensioners into criminals and play poker while the real criminals get away with it?
Is it any wonder the country’s gone to the dogs!

Hi Jayne,
And welcome back. I was starting to get worried about you.
Also, welcome to the party! We’ve been doing stupid crap like that for years. Personally, I’m thinking that the only reason we, as in the United States, are still a country is because the rest of the world is even stupider than we are. Unfortunately, it also seems that we’ve set what little is left of our minds on winning that race!
Looks like we’re in it together. Cheers!

Hey Grit
Sorry it’s been so long – duty calls before pleasure. I also got conned into doing the ‘input’ for the new company website – OMGoodness what a boring job but it is looking rather nifty, if I do say so myself!
This ’stupid British’ thing has begun to get on my nerves a lot lately. I can’t believe how the good citizens of this fair isle have allowed themselves to become so . . . well . . . stupid! We had a classic in the shop today. He’d brought his broken laptop in to sell and we offered him £20. The screen was broken and it wouldn’t switch on so no idea of the full extent of the damage – he (absolutely seriously!) informed us that it was working just fine before he dropped it and was thus worth more than £20!
I shan’t print my reply – lol
I’ll try to get here more often my friend – I do love your blog and I love participating. Just need a kick start!

Hi Jayne,
I feel your pain, although several years of Government service have somewhat built up my tolerance to the stupidity of the general public
Honestly, I have spent more than one night, alone in the dark, drinking heavily and listening to the music of my youth while wondering how many of these people survive to adulthood!
This is why one of the bits of wisdom I passed on to my son when he left for college was, “Never be surprised by the stupidity of others.” The other was “Always check the paper supply before you sit down on a public toilet.” I’m not sure which one had greater value, but they are both appropriate in my view.
As to your presence, it’s always an honor and a pleasure, and I’m happy for what ever time you can spare. I only mentioned your absence because, what with the current weirdness, I was starting to get worried about your safety. What strange times we live in.
Oh, and on a selfish note, I also need you to stick around because it’s looking like we over here are going to need lots more English to American translation
Oh, oh, and thank you in advance for your public service!
Oh, oh, oh, and my advice on dealing with the idiots is to take a moment and picture Madonna in that pointy bra before replying to them. Imagining that you’re talking to Gilligan (from the TV series, Gilligan’s Island) also works.

Thank you Grit – it’s always nice to be appreciated!
Besides, I should have a little more time on my hands since just being banned from Helium tonight! Good Grief – and there I was thinking I was being SO diplomatic
I am inspired – I shall go news trawling first thing in the morning. Between the idiots of course!

Hi Jayne,
What the hell did Helium do to you! Do you want me to punish them for you? Remember that I haven’t bothered with Them for months. Also remember that I am not at all fond of their management and will be more than happy to give them a spanking if you so desire!
You are just too sweet!

Kind Grit
It has become a police state – all dissenters get thrown out with no recourse! A week only but I’m still confused as to what I did except ask some awkward questions and slap a chap round the head for rude and obnoxious behaviour. Unfortunately he was an Assistant Chief to the Chief Assistant – a steward no less! Bad choice – lol
I’m not bothered just VERY irritated! It used to be such fun too – now it’s tediously dull. I believe the forums are for the axe soon anyway – we now have ‘Zones’ that we create ourselves. Fun but having built several, I’m now discovering that over enthusiastic moderating policies apply there too.
Sigh – life is tough on the front line!

Hi Jayne,
I can only say that I’m glad I left before things got so bad.

Hey Grit
And I’m really sorry you did! It’s never been quite the same place since but having got over my immediate MIFF, I shall keep having a go at the zones which are fun and show great potential – if they keep the red marker in the drawer!
Serious writing is beyond me at the moment, just not enough time and very little inspiration.

Hi Jayne,
Good luck with it. Personally, I wouldn’t touch Helium with a ten foot mouse pointer.
